Stronger management structure prepares for growth
Tom Barnes has assumed the role of Managing Director at Vastern Timber in a move which sees the family owned company adopt a stronger and more formal management structure ready for anticipated growth.
Based in Wootton Bassett and founded in High Wycombe in 1904, Vastern Timber is owned and run by three members of the Barnes family – Peter, Jon and Tom Barnes, representing the third and fourth generations of family working at the company. Vastern Timber continues to establish itself as a highly respected business both within the UK timber industry and with its customers.
“These are exciting times for Vastern Timber and the UK timber industry,” explains Tom Barnes. “We have had a very positive year as a business and we are confident that we have a strong strategy in place for 2015 and beyond.
“Signals from the UK construction market are very positive and we continue to see an ever increasing interest in domestically grown timber products on the back of campaigns such as ‘Wood for Good’ and ‘Grown In Britain’.
“To support the further growth of the business we have instigated a more formal management structure. This will allow me to concentrate on developing the business both through attracting new customers as well as developing our product range in line with the increasing demand for modified and engineered timber products.”
